I’ve teamed up with Kawartha Local once again to work on a unique project titled The Pollinators!
For this specific project, I have created 6 unique miniatures measuring 2.5″ x 2.5″ featuring various pollinators.

“Celebrate Summer with a pollinator themed gift box.

This collection of locally produced mini-gifts is perfect for the nature lover in your life.
There are two variations featuring two local artists.
Inside a locally made Kawartha treasure box you’ll find a one-of-a-kind wire wrapped crystal “bug” by Peterborough’s Ryan Kirby.
Or, choose the Brianna Gosselin option for a box with one of 6 different original 2.5″ pollinator miniatures.
Our friends at Urban Tomato provide a mix of their locally harvested annual and perennial seeds and the busy bees at OtonaBEE Apiary bring the package full circle with their delicious clover honey.”

Head on over to Kawartha Local today to pick yours up today!

Peterborough is an amazing community. I am reminded of this often, even more so when I see everyone come together for an incredible cause.
A week ago today I hosted an Intuitive Painting night at the Silver Bean Cafe in support of the YWCA Peterborough/Haliburton. I witnessed a group of women come together to create and was amazed by their creative spirits. To be surrounded with women from a variety of different backgrounds coming together in support of the YWCA was a beautiful thing.
I enjoyed watching their strength as they put paint to canvas and were supportive of one another.
From this event we were able to raise $550 to give to the YWCA, I am very grateful for everyone who came to this event to help make this possible.
It was the best way to finalize a month of creative giving from our YWCA Bean Up Series.

Take a sneak peak below to see the evening’s adventures and final creations.

12091440_10153606573144694_7207708946124888244_oThis past fall I had the privilege of having Lynn Elmhirst from besttrip.tv join me in the studio to film a special segment titled “Meet The Makers”.
Lynn and Peterborough and the Kawarthas Tourism have created a wonderful series featuring various makers in the Peterborough community and highlighting their creativity.
Please take a look and step inside my studio.

“Maker Brianna Gosselin explains to Lynn Elmhirst of BestTrip.TV how not to be afraid of the unknown to create intuitive art

One of my favourite views in Peterborough is the contemporary Art Gallery on the shore of Little Lake in the heart of the city. It is not only aesthetically wonderful, it also hints at a facet of a city perhaps better known in the past for hockey culture and its world record-holding historic Lift Lock. The Art Gallery is there in bright, contemporary splendor in an otherwise traditional park setting. You know it’s there, but it still never fails to make you catch your breath and look twice.

There’s a core of the Peterborough and the Kawarthas community of artists and Makers that is just like that gallery. It embraces the modern, the experimental, and the risk-taking, still inspired by the region’s truly splendid natural setting. So exploring the community’s art scene produces unexpected gems.

GrowthThroughUnity_MixedMediaonCanvas_30x30_600Top 30 Under 30

Mixed media artist Briana Gosselin embodies that spirit. Identified as one of Canada’s Top 30 Under 30 artists, she’s an intuitive artist, a modern approach to creating art without being intent on knowing what the finished product will look like. To Brianna, it’s about looking at the world differently and allowing changing energies to guide the Maker – not a preconceived notion of what something should be or how a concept should be delivered on canvas.

Liberating, but also a bit scary, right? Brianna compares the adult art classes she teaches to therapy and finds it therapeutic herself.

But it’s an approach to art that Brianna finds suited to her artistic expression and even to her studio’s location in the heart of Peterborough’s historic downtown, with both 150 year-old trees and quiet courtyards and the pedestrian energy of the street outside.

“Nature inspires me but I find people fuel my creativity. I need to be able to around people, I love to be interacting with them and feeling the energy that comes off them.

“When people come in to see me it’s fantastic, they’re already downtown, they’re already out doing cafes, enjoying the shops, they get to add me to their list of errands, I become part of their daily lives. It helps me to paint, and it’s so great having people come to the studio to visit. A lot of time people want to come see artists in the studio, and with me here, it’s not a big deal, I’m right here as they’re passing. Even if it’s a mess, they love it!””

6th Annual Art School of Peterborough
Super Class – Art-a-thon
Saturday, February 27th, 2016

Individuals from all disciplines will be gathering in the art school to work on their craft for 4, 6 or 12 hours straight in our 6th Annual Super Class Event.
Community members can sponsor an artist with all donors over $20 being issued a charitable tax receipt. Donations go directly to the Art School of Peterborough. As a not-for-profit, we are dedicated to providing professional instruction to both youth and adults in a variety of mediums. The Art School also has both youth and adult bursaries which eliminates financial limitations for anyone wanting to take a course.

Why do I support The Art School and help with fundraising ?Artathon-2016_poster_WEB
For if I never discovered The Art School of Peterborough, I would not be where I am today.
Before I discovered the art school I was trapped in a career that was draining me more and more each day. I would go to bed with a knot in my stomach dreading the next day, then wake up filled with dread while getting ready to go into work.
My sister encouraged me to try out for the Richard Hayman Scholarship, a program where you apply with a portfolio and are able to study under an artist for the duration of two terms. Upon acceptance, I was filled with hope and an eagerness to get back into the arts.
As time went on through my apprenticeship, I began to feel happiness again as I explored familiar and new mediums and began to be accepted into a creative family within the school. I began to volunteer around the main office at the art school and during their youth art camps. I began apprenticing in the pottery studio as well. Being immersed in the arts gave me the courage to quit my day job and leave the career of hairstyling behind.
I was offered the job of an art instructor and began shadowing other youth art instructors to be properly trained.
Fast forward to present day and I am now a full time artist and art instructor, I have my own studio, I am able to make a living doing what I love most. I have served on the board of directors at the art school, am a member of the marketing committee and was chair of such for a short time. I have created three new programs for the art school, assisted with summer camp programming and am an instructor for such.
Needless to say, if I never would of found The Art School of Peterborough and benefited from this scholarship program, I may not be where I am now living my dream.

The Art School of Peterborough is a sacred place that is dear to my heart and am extremely thankful to have in the community. As I continue to watch it grow, I am honoured to be along for the journey.
